INDONESIA DISCOVERY - 35 DAYS 34 NIGHTS

DAY 01 : MEDAN – KETAMBE
Transfer from Medan airport to Ketambe, in the hart of the Gunung Leuser National Park. Overnight at basic guesthouse in Ketambe

DAY 02 : KETAMBE
Sightseeing National Park. With a local guide we explore the undisturbed rain forest of the park, trying to see some wildlife, including wild Orangutans. Overnight at basic guesthouse in Ketambe.

DAY 03 : KETAMBE
Sightseeing National Park . With a local guide we explore the park and visit a hot spring for a swim in the middle of the forest. Overnight at basic guesthouse in Ketambe.

DAY 04 : KETAMBE – BAHOROK
Transfer from Ketambe directly to Bahorok, at the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park . The afternoon is free to relax. Overnight at guesthouse in Bahorok.

DAY 05 : BAHOROK
We visit the feeding site of the Orangutans of the Bahorok Rehabilitation Station and with a local guide we explore the rain forest of the park, trying to see some more wildlife. Overnight at guesthouse in Bahorok.

DAY 06 : BAHOROK – BRASTAGI
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Brastagi. In the afternoon we visit the traditional markets of Brastagi. Overnight at hotel in Brastagi.

DAY 07 : BRASTAGI
Sightseeing Karo Batak highlands. We walk or drive through the countryside and end at the traditional Karo Batak village Lingga. From here we drive back to Brastagi. Overnight at hotel in Brastagi.

DAY 08 : CLIMB MOUNT SIBAYAK
We walk for most of the day crossing rice fields and up through the jungle. It takes about one and a half hours to get to the base of the mountain and then another three hours to the top. It is quite steep in places so you must be fairly fit, but the rewards repay the efforts, as the scenery is beautiful. The rest of the afternoon is free in Brastagi where we relax and appreciate the cool highland climate. Overnight at hotel in Brastagi.

DAY 09 : BRASTAGI
In the morning free for own leisure. After lunch we drive for a relaxing bath in the hot springs of Semangat Gunung, we drive back to Brastagi. Overnight at hotel in Brastagi.

DAY 10 : BRASTAGI – SAMOSIR ISLAND
After breakfast at hotel, we drive to the small lake side resort of Parapat on Lake Toba , from where we board a boat to Samosir Island . Afternoon check in hotel in Samosir Island for overnight stay.

DAY 11 : SAMOSIR ISLAND
Sightseeing Samosir Island . We visit traditional Toba Batak villages and the historical sites of Tomok, Ambarita and others, on foot or bicycle. Overnight at hotel in Samosir Island .

DAY 12 : SAMOSIR ISLAND
Free program. Time to relax, swim or explore the remote areas of Samosir Island . Overnight at hotel in Samosir Island .

DAY 13 : SAMOSIR ISLAND – NIAS ISLAND
After breakfast at hotel, we transfer to Sibolga take aferry for Nias Island . On arrival at Gunung Sitoli Binaka Airport transfer by bus or minibus for our base at Lagundri. Along the way we stop to examine ancient stone totems, intricately carved and standing enigmatically in a forest clearing. Lunch is at a beach side seafood restaurant at Lagara Beach . After our long trip on a fairly rough road, we are rewarded with an unspoilt palm fringed, white sandy beach with still undiscovered surfing spots. Overnight at the hotel in Nias Island .

DAY 14 : NIAS ISLAND
We depart for Bawomataluo and a walking tour of several traditional Nias villages. We marvel at the labour that must have been involved transporting the huge slabs of stone and massive beams used in constructing these mountain-top village. After lunch we depart for Teluk Dalam, after a tour of the town, market and port area, we visit the world-famous Sorake Beach , a surfing spot with the world's largest “right-hander”. Later, we return to Lagundri, where the remainder of the day can be spent swimming and relaxing. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Nias Island .

DAY 15 : NIAS ISLAND
After breakfast at hotel, we depart for Bohohilitano and Bawomatoluo two mountain-top village fortresses. Explore their unique architecture-massive dwellings constructed in timber and stone. Spear carrying warriors entertain us with their war dances and stone jumping. We may hear the Fanayama Dance group with its stirring harmonies and moving rhythms. We return to our hotel for take a rest. In the afternoon leaves us free for swimming or perhaps a short guided walk to the Sorake Beach surfing area. Overnight at the hotel in Nias Island .

DAY 16 : NIAS ISLAND
After breakfast the morning is free for relaxing on the beach. Late morning, we depart for Gunung Sitoli, stopping at Moale, an absolutely pristine beach, then on to Soliga Top where there are superb views from one side of Nias to the other. Overnight at the hotel in Gunung Sitoli.

DAY 17 : NIAS ISLAND - PADANG SIDEMPUAN
After breakfast, tour to Gunung Sitoli then on to Siwahili, a traditional Northern Nias village. Here the architecture is totally different from the Southern style, but equally impressive. The friendly villagers welcome us into their distinctive oval houses. Our return ferry to Sibolga and transfer to Padang Sidempuan. Overnight at hotel in Padang Sidempuan.

DAY 18 : PDG SIDEMPUAN - BUKITTINGGI
After breakfast at hotel, continue through the vast jungle interior of Sumatra into the heartland of the Minangkabau people. En route we stop on the equator and a hot spring in a rain forest reserve at Rimbo Panti. Overnight at hotel in Bukittinggi

DAY 19 : BUKITTINGGI - SIGHTSEEING
After breakfast at hotel, a free day to explore Bukittinggi and the chance for walking in a nearby canyon. Probably the most attractive, friendly and relaxing town in all Indonesia at 3000' above sea level, it enjoys a healthy and invigorating climate. The Minangkabau of the tropical highlands are matrilineal;. From the site of Fort De Kock (1825) can be seen a smoking volcano and some really beautiful mountain scenery, especially at sunset. In the afternoon check back to the hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 20 : MINANGKABAU TOUR
A full day tour will start to the unique land of matrilineal Minangkabau visiting Batu Sangkar, the ancient Minangkabau Kingdom , Pagaruyung the Minangkabau king's palace, a symbol of Minangkabau architecture. Enjoy the specific Padang rice table for lunch in beautiful rice fields. Proceed to Singkarak Lake , the largest lake of West Sumatra visiting Lima Kaum, Ombilin, Pandai Sikat a famous village for weaving and woodcarving.

DAY 21 : HARAU VALLEY TOUR
Sightseeing Harau Valley . We drive to the valley, visiting a traditional ‘krupuk' factory and the caves of Ngalau Indah on the way. In the Harau Valley we make a walk through rice fields, rain forest and visit some waterfalls foe a swim. In the afternoon we drive back to Bukittinggi. Overnight at hotel in Bukittinggi.

DAY 22 : BUKITTINGGI - MANINJAU
Sightseeing Lake Maninjau will start visiting Koto Gadang a village famous for silver filligram work. Then we drive to Lawang, at the rim of the enormous crater of the Lake Maninjau . We walk down hill to the lake, through some forest, plantations and amazing rice fields. Overnight at hotel in Maninjau.

DAY 23 : MANINJAU - PADANG
After breakfast at the hotel drive to Padang and free for own activities. Overnight at hotel in Padang .

DAY 24 : PADANG - JAKARTA
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for city tour until the time for the departure flight to Jakarta . In the afternoon arrival in Jakarta and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel in Jakarta .

DAY 25 : JAKARTA - BANDUNG
After breakfast at the hotel a short city tour in Jakarta covering the National Monument and Sunda Kelapa old harbour. Then leave Jakarta for Bandung driving through the lush green country side. En route, visit the famous Botanical Gardens of Bogor with its thousands of species of tropical plants and trees. Stop at the mountain resort of Puncak for lunch. Late afternoon arrival in Bandung . Overnight at hotel in Bandung .

DAY 26 : BANDUNG
After breakfast at the hotel, excursion to the Tangkuban Prahu volcano with its awesome main crater, accessible by car and visit tone of its smaller craters down a steep path going through a serene tropical rain forest. Then on the thermal spa of Sari After for a relaxing bath in the hot water pools. After lunch, visit an “Angklung” workshop with a demonstration on playing this unique music instrument. Overnight at hotel in Bandung .

DAY 27 : BANDUNG - CILACAP
After breakfast at the hotel, leave Bandung towards the border of Central Java , driving through one of the prettiest country sides of Java. En route, visit Cangkuang Temple , the only ancient Hindu shrine in West Java , located in the middle of a tiny like, reachable by bamboo rafts. Then proceed to Kali Peucang village to board a local ferry for the journey to Cilacap through mangrove forest and along typical fishing villages. On arrival in Cilacap, transfer to the hotel by “becak” pedicap. Overnight at hotel in Cilacap.

DAY 28 : CILACAP - YOGYAKARTA
After breakfast at the hotel, leave Cilacap with drive through the mountain region of Central Java Wonosobo to visit the mysterious Dieng Plateau. After lunch and a short visit to the colourful market in Wonosobo, proceed to the world famous Borobudur Temple . Then continue to Yogyakarta . Overnight at hotel in Yogyakarta .

DAY 29 : YOGYAKARTA
After breakfast at the hotel, city tour in this centre of Javanese culture and traditions with visits to the palace compound of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, a batik workshop and the fine silver works at Kota Gede. Lunch at local restaurant, and then visit to the Hindu temple complex of Prambanan with its main shrine, considered the most graceful and elegant ancient monument of Java . Overnight at hotel in Yogyakarta .

DAY 30 : YOGYAKARTA - DENPASAR ( BALI )
After breakfast at the hotel, last minute shopping before transfer to the airport for the departure flight to Denpasar. On arrival in Denpasar, meeting services at the airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel in Denpasar.

DAY 31 : BALI
After breakfast at the hotel, a full island tour starting with a stop at Batu Bulan village to watch the Barong dance performance. Then to the gold and Silversmiths village of Celuk, the woodcarving village of Mas (gold), the artist colony at Ubud, the Tirta Empu sacred spring at Tampaksiring and the cool mountain village of Kintamani with views of Lake Batur and its volcano. Overnight at hotel in Denpasar.

DAY 32 : BALI
After breakfast at the hotel, free at leisure. In the afternoon tour to the monkeys forest of Sangeh, the beautiful Taman Ayun Temple at Mengwi and the rock sanctuary of Tanah Lot with its unforgettable sunset. Overnight at hotel in Denpasar.

DAY 33 & 34 : BALI
Free days at leisure or for strolling around looking for souvenirs or take an optional tour to further explore Bali with its unique ceremonies. Overnight at hotel in Bali.

DAY 35 : BALI - AIRPORT
After breakfast at the hotel, free for own activities until the time for transfer to the airport for the departure flight to the next destination.
